Canada commits $156 million to national sport bodies for 2026 to 2027

Canadian Heritage announced more than $156 million for 62 national sport organizations in the 2026 to 2027 year, including an additional $60 million to support participation, athletes and safe sport.

Canadian Heritage announced on October 22, 2026 that 62 national sport organizations will receive more than $156 million for 2026 to 2027, including an additional $60 million this year. The funding is intended to widen participation, support athlete development and strengthen sport safety and integrity.

The announcement concerns federal support for national organizations. It isn't an open grant invitation for individual clubs, nor does it guarantee how funds will reach community programs. The cultural significance lies in a public investment that links local participation with national competition and places greater emphasis on inclusion and safer sport.
