Held. The BC Human Rights Tribunal dismissed a complaint about alleged discrimination during a church seniors event after finding the alleged conduct unproved.

A visitor to a church potluck alleged that a volunteer providing transport had insulted, assaulted and harassed her because of protected characteristics. After a full hearing, the BC Human Rights Tribunal preferred the respondents' evidence, contemporaneous correspondence and testimony of an independent witness. The alleged discriminatory events weren't proved.

Why it matters. Religious and community programs aren't categorically exempt from human rights obligations. This was an evidence based dismissal, with section 8 service coverage expressly assumed rather than decided.
