Michele McKenzie stays on as interim director of Pier 21 museum

Canadian Heritage extends Michele McKenzie’s interim leadership of the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 for up to two more years.

Canadian Heritage announced October 22 that Michele McKenzie will continue as interim director of the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 in Halifax for an additional period of up to two years. McKenzie has held the interim role since December 2025. She previously led Destination Canada and served as Nova Scotia’s deputy minister responsible for tourism, culture and heritage.

The appointment affects leadership of the national museum devoted to Canada’s immigration history. It is a continuation of an interim appointment, not the selection of a permanent director or a change to the museum’s mandate. The Canadian Heritage announcement provides the official details.
