Radio music reproduction rates stay unchanged for 2027 to 2029

The Copyright Board has kept commercial radio reproduction royalties at the existing rates for 2027 to 2029, with updated terminology and reporting rules.

Radio stations are still paying for reproducing the music they broadcast, but the Copyright Board hasn’t increased those royalties for 2027 to 2029. In its July 10, 2026 decision, the Board approved rates matching the previous tariff, finding no material market change or objection that justified a different benchmark. The tariff covers reproduction rights administered by CMRRA, SOCAN, CONNECT/Panorama and Artisti, with different calculations depending on revenue, language and music use. For broadcasters, the more practical change is continuity, along with updated language and reporting obligations, rather than a new price shock.

This is a Copyright Board tariff approval, not a court ruling on an individual broadcaster’s liability. The official tariff sets out the operative amounts, while the Board’s reasons explain the decision.
