Ottawa names two partners for community food funding

Food Banks Canada and Second Harvest are each slated to distribute up to $10 million in federal food support. Local organizations will apply through the delivery partners.

On October 23, 2026, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada announced Food Banks Canada and Second Harvest as the first delivery partners for the Local Food Infrastructure Fund's Community Support Stream. Each is expected to receive up to $10 million to distribute through applications from eligible food banks and community nonprofits. The federal announcement says final funding is subject to contribution agreements, so these aren't final awards to individual local organizations.

For nonprofit boards, the immediate question is which delivery partner serves their area and what its application rules require. The federal government has published an Initial Recipient Finder to help organizations identify a relevant partner. The funding is intended to help local groups acquire and distribute food, rather than provide unrestricted operating revenue.
