Manitoba's Digital Accessibility Rules Reach Your Nonprofit's Website, Not Just Its Front Door
Manitoba's accessible information and communication standard has applied to covered nonprofits since May 1, 2025. Websites, documents, staff training and feedback all matter.
A nonprofit can have a wheelchair ramp, an accessible meeting room and a genuinely welcoming team while still making its services difficult to reach. An online application that can't be completed with a keyboard, a scanned PDF that a screen reader can't interpret, or instructions available only through an inaccessible portal may put a practical barrier between the organization and the person it wants to serve.
Manitoba's Accessible Information and Communication Standard Regulation, under The Accessibility for Manitobans Act, is designed to address those barriers. For covered private businesses and nonprofits with at least one employee, the compliance date was May 1, 2025. It isn't a newly introduced October 2026 requirement. Organizations that haven't reviewed their digital accessibility should treat this as an existing obligation rather than a distant implementation project.

A contractor dispute. A reserve fund question. An annual filing that got missed. An agreement with a service provider. Each begins somewhere, then gathers records, decisions and responsibilities.
