OSFI confirms Q4 P&C returns stay unchanged before 2027 shift

OSFI's October 22 letter leaves Q4 2026 P&C insurance returns unchanged and clarifies when December and October year end insurers switch to IFRS 18 templates.

OSFI's October 22, 2026 letter confirms no changes to the PC1, PC2, PC3 and PCPROV property and casualty returns for Q4 2026. The PC4 capital return also remains unchanged for Q4 2026 and Q1 2027. Updated financial return templates follow the adoption of IFRS 18 in 2027, but the filing transition depends on each insurer's fiscal year.

An insurer with a December year end begins filing the IFRS 18 versions in Q1 2027. One with an October year end keeps the existing P&C return versions through its 2026 to 2027 fiscal year and switches in Q1 of the following fiscal year. This October 22 notice clarifies the reporting timetable rather than changing the coverage provided by an insurance policy.
