What is Binder?
Binder is where the information behind your business comes together. Coverage, records, documents and matters stay connected in one place. Record preserves what happened. Advocate examines the information and identifies what may be missing. Binder University turns anonymized real-world situations into practical learning. Counsel provides supervised legal research when a matter calls for it.
A claim can be managed in Binder, but you don't need a claim to use Binder. Much of its value exists before anything goes wrong.
Is Binder a law firm?
No. Binder is not a law firm. It's built by real people and overseen by licensed professionals.
What does Advocate actually do?
Advocate investigates your matter to establish what happened — the factual foundation everything else in Binder is built on. It surfaces gaps, open questions, and whether insurance coverage should respond. It never issues a verdict; it hands you the facts so you can decide what to do next.
What does Counsel do?
Counsel is a real, licensed Canadian lawyer who researches your matter and provides defensible information to help you make informed decisions. Counsel doesn't arrange anything or act on your behalf — you decide what to do with what you're given. How long it takes depends on complexity: a straightforward question comes back faster than a matter with real layers to it.
What does University teach?
Cross-Canada professional education, built from real scenarios rather than abstract theory — six faculties covering the situations that actually create legal exposure: an HR complaint, a denied insurance claim, a compliance question, a governance gap. Some courses are free to try with no account required.
How much does Binder cost?
Less than an in-house legal department, by a wide margin. Pricing is tiered by business size — see the pricing page for current numbers.
Can I get my data out?
Yes. Records and Counsel memos can be downloaded. All data is retained in accordance with the privacy policy.
