The employer framework
Alberta’s occupational health and safety guidance states that employers must do everything reasonably practicable to protect worker health, safety and welfare.
The public checklist covers job-specific skills and training, competent supervisors, violence and harassment prevention, hazard information, safe-work practices, equipment, chemical controls, and work with health and safety committees or representatives.
New and young workers
The guide gives additional attention to young and new workers. It calls for training before work is assigned, pairing with experienced workers, regular supervision, clear reporting routes for hazards and visible safety leadership.
Serious injuries, incidents and potentially serious incidents are also identified as part of the employer’s investigation responsibilities.
