The BC Supreme Court upheld the dismissal for cause of a longtime project manager who knowingly overstated his hours by claiming paid coffee breaks after being told to stop, then took extra leave despite express refusal of permission. Applying a contextual assessment of dishonesty and proportionality, the court found that the deliberate time reporting fraud and insubordination broke the employment relationship and dismissed his wrongful dismissal action.
