Employment and Social Development Canada opened online applications for its Workforce Retention and Retraining Program on October 22, 2026. Eligible employers facing economic disruption may obtain up to $1,000 per participating worker for training and administration while employees on reduced hours may receive a combination of Employment Insurance Work Sharing benefits and training income supplements. The program runs through March 2028. The announcement also describes temporary Employment Insurance measures, which should not be mistaken for permanent changes to provincial employment standards.
