Regulatory Update

Yukon lowers all nine workers compensation assessment rates for 2027

Yukon's workers compensation assessment rates are falling across all nine industry groups for 2027, but individual employer notices and the higher earnings ceiling still matter.

Yukon employers planning their 2027 workers compensation budgets have an unusually clear piece of good news. The Workers’ Safety and Compensation Board says assessment rates will fall in every one of its nine industry groups. The reduction is broad, but the amount depends on which group an employer belongs to. It also arrives alongside a higher maximum annual earnings figure, so businesses shouldn't assume that a lower published rate automatically translates into the same percentage reduction on their final assessment. The board announced the changes on September 24, 2026. The high risk Resources and Transportation group moves from $6.73 to $5.44 in the published rate table, while the high risk Construction group moves from $4.85 to $3.85. The Services low risk group has a smaller change, from $0.87 to $0.84. Government moves from $2.04 to $1.79. Rates are expressed against assessable payroll, and the board has published the complete comparison for each of the nine groups rather than a single average that would conceal substantial differences among industries. There's another number worth putting on the payroll calendar.
